The Dull Pen

"Most people can't write for shit" - That was a single line offered up by Curry on his blog a couple of days ago. It was just a statement - a bitch - tossed off for reasons upon which he did not expound. He happens to be correct. With a J degree from one of the most respected Journalism schools in the country, he knows whereof he speaks.

Most people can't write. One need only sift through various emails and blogs to see the truth of Curry's bitch. It is frightening. We all have grammatical and punctuation errors. Typos are all too common. In this age of instant communication, those things are to be expected. The real problem is the inability to express one's opinions or ideas in a way that others can understand.

On the same day I read Curry's little comment I happened to be searching for an image of a Eurodisney employee in a Victor Hugo cape-coat. I ventured to the corporate site for Eurodisney and while perusing there I came across a little disaster. Disney is an enormous worldwide corporation. It isn't some guy or gal winging it on the net. How this ever got written, let alone edited, let alone posted, let alone continues to exist on their site, is beyond me. In large type, promoting the wonderous gastronomic experiences to be had in their theme park, they announce:

fine winning and dinning

They, of course, mean fine wining and dining. This could be overlooked were it not for the fact that it is but the tip of an iceberg; an iceberg that sits smack dab in the center of our Titanic civilization's path. How did we get here?

I am venting. In keeping with the dining theme, consider this the amuse bouche; the appetizer. The main course is coming. I am not done with this subject.
