It isn't just the nominees that need some vetting. The McCain spokespeople could use a little looking into before they face the mics, as well.

“She’s going to learn national security at the foot of the master for the next four years, and most doctors think that he’ll be around at least that long,” said Charlie Black, one of Mr. McCain’s top advisers, making light of concerns about Mr. McCain’s health, which Mr. McCain’s doctors reported as excellent in May.

That would be funny if the odds of McCain dying in office before the end of a second term weren't 1 in 3. Over two terms in office McCain is literally 10 times more likely to die than Obama according to actuarial models (which don't even take into account McCain's bouts with cancer).
