A Prairie Home Abandoned

Spring is in the air in Central California. The temperature is approaching 70 and, though no buds have popped on the trees as yet, the daffodils and tulips have sprouted. As I sit here, my patio doors are open and the cat is sprawled, soaking up the sun. The kids are napping, grass stains on their pants. The brown dog is chasing a butterfly.

According to the Weather Channel, it's snowing and 9 degrees above zero in our old, midwest hometown right now.

I'm not gloating. It's just nice to get a day, at least once in a while, when you have no doubts about the choices you've made.

your pleasant weather makes you weak and vulnerable. I condemn your balminess!
